Status of Same Sex Marriage Worldwide

It started with the Dutch in 2000. Later, in 2015, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution requires states to grant marriages to gay couples and/or recognize those marriages performed by other states. Now, according to a recent U.S. News & World Report article, as of December 2021, 31 countries have legalized same sex marriages nationally or regionally through legislation or court decisions.
