Some Alimony Trivia

As my colleague Lili Vasileff, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, recently noted, “There is a historical basis linking emotions and alimony. In earlier times, divorce could stem only from marital misconduct. Marital misconduct includes cheating, abandonment, reckless spending, concealment of assets, and abuse. As far back as the Babylonians, a man who had mistreated his wife had to provide an allowance to sustain her…“.

Nowadays, misconduct isn’t necessary in order to divorce in Connecticut. We’ve had no fault divorce since the 1970s. But alimony is still often the most highly emotional part in many divorces.
