General Firm Background and Philosophy
I practice family law meaning matters related to marriage, divorce, civil unions and custody. I serve clients through mediation and collaborative practice. I also consult with litigation clients, represent children and act as guardian ad litem. Premarital legal advice and arbitration services are provided as well.
I have a full and high quality practice and strive to serve clients competently and creatively so that you can move forward with your lives. I serve clients throughout Connecticut, focusing in particular on Hartford and New Haven counties.
In me, a client seeks an ally, a guide, an advisor, a creative thinker and an advocate. Most want a result that feels “fair”, is timely and is achieved while preserving personal relationships.
My goal is to help you move forward with your life by:
- Listening to your concerns, fears and dreams
- Helping you identify, prioritize and voice your interests
- Creating financial and parenting options
- Assessing and analyzing choices
- Educating, guiding and advising you
- Implementing your decisions
Over twenty years of experience including many divorce and custody trials, has proven to me that alternate dispute resolution processes such as mediation and collaborative practice rather than litigation allow clients to achieve your goals. Alternate dispute resolution processes are private, respectful and creative. Thus, this firm is committed to educating and empowering each client so you can resolve your legal matter and achieve your realistic goals without court interference.
I take my obligations to my clients seriously. Thus, I continually strive to improve my skills and expand my knowledge. In addition to attending continuing legal education courses offered by Connecticut and local bar associations, I expend substantial amounts of my own time and resources educating myself and obtaining the best advanced training available throughout the country.
One of my objectives is to provide value to my clients and make your legal expense a good investment. I am sensitive to the cost of these matters and welcome candid discussions of fees and my services.
I am in a “people practice” and the work I do is demanding. I limit the number and type of clients I accept, maintain a manageable caseload and hold myself to high quality standards.
People ask how I can deal with marital and family issues at deep levels day in and day out. I am fortunate in that my professional life is a positive combination of being a lawyer, working with and helping people, having intellectual and legal stimulation, and making a living.
